Narrative:
While landing and shortly before reporting a 2 mile right base as instructed by the tower; a gulfstream passed to my left also on a right base for the same runway. The gulfstream's position and speed was going to put both of our aircraft near the end of the runway at approximately the same time with an unsafe separation and expose my smaller aircraft to unsafe wake turbulence. I turned away from this developing risk without instructions from the tower. I reentered a right downwind as instructed by the tower and landed safely.
