Narrative:

During ILS 24 to isp, long island tower cleared my student to land on runway 24 and to hold short of runway 33L as simultaneous landing and departure operations were taking place. The approach was unstable due to occasional moderate turbulence and my student pilot's induced oscillations. I took the hood off the student prior to decision ht because of his difficulties and instructed him to continue the last 2 mi to the threshold visually. The student reacted slowly to the IFR-VFR transition and came in hot over the threshold of runway 24. The extra airspeed, in combination with a low-wind aircraft landing on a hot, 85 degree (temperature) runway prevented us from bringing the small aircraft to a halt before crossing runway 33L. Fortunately, no aircraft were rolling on runway 33L and we exited runway 24 at charlie taxiway. The local controller made no comment on the tower frequency about our mistake. I probably should have taken firmer control of the aircraft during the final stages of the approach, to bleed off our excess kinetic energy prior to the runway threshold.

Title: A CFI REFLECTS ON HIS INACTION ON NOT TAKING THE ACFT AWAY FROM SPI AS THEY DEVIATED FROM TWR CTLR'S INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT OF A CROSSING RWY.

Narrative: DURING ILS 24 TO ISP, LONG ISLAND TWR CLRED MY STUDENT TO LAND ON RWY 24 AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 33L AS SIMULTANEOUS LNDG AND DEP OPS WERE TAKING PLACE. THE APCH WAS UNSTABLE DUE TO OCCASIONAL MODERATE TURB AND MY STUDENT PLT'S INDUCED OSCILLATIONS. I TOOK THE HOOD OFF THE STUDENT PRIOR TO DECISION HT BECAUSE OF HIS DIFFICULTIES AND INSTRUCTED HIM TO CONTINUE THE LAST 2 MI TO THE THRESHOLD VISUALLY. THE STUDENT REACTED SLOWLY TO THE IFR-VFR TRANSITION AND CAME IN HOT OVER THE THRESHOLD OF RWY 24. THE EXTRA AIRSPD, IN COMBINATION WITH A LOW-WIND ACFT LNDG ON A HOT, 85 DEG (TEMP) RWY PREVENTED US FROM BRINGING THE SMA TO A HALT BEFORE XING RWY 33L. FORTUNATELY, NO ACFT WERE ROLLING ON RWY 33L AND WE EXITED RWY 24 AT CHARLIE TXWY. THE LCL CTLR MADE NO COMMENT ON THE TWR FREQ ABOUT OUR MISTAKE. I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN FIRMER CONTROL OF THE ACFT DURING THE FINAL STAGES OF THE APCH, TO BLEED OFF OUR EXCESS KINETIC ENERGY PRIOR TO THE RWY THRESHOLD.
