Narrative:
Our flight was departing lax approximately XY50 am, 6/mon/90. After pushback from gate the first officer and I both agreed that ground control told us to follow the company medium large transport on our left and contact tower. We followed the medium large transport onto a taxiway off the east end of runway 24L to the hold position between runway 24L and 24R. Crossing the extended centerline of 24L the tower advised us that we were crossing the active runway and at the same time told another air carrier on final to climb to 2000'. The other air carrier told the tower that we were clear and he was going to land, and did. We were clear and sitting between runway 24L and 24R with the parking brake set when the other air carrier passed us and landed on 24L. The first officer and I both agreed that we heard 'follow the company on your left and contact tower.' after landing at our destination I called the lax tower to discuss the misunderstanding. Since no incident occurred, no action will be taken, but the tower supervisor and I both agreed that in the future both ends of the operation should have a clear understanding of the taxi clearance.

Title: UNCOORDINATED WY CROSSING CREATES A POTENTIAL CONFLICT FOR ACFT ON SHORT APCH. FLT CREW DID NOT SEE ACFT ON SHORT FINAL AS THEY CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY.
Narrative: OUR FLT WAS DEPARTING LAX APPROX XY50 AM, 6/MON/90. AFTER PUSHBACK FROM GATE THE F/O AND I BOTH AGREED THAT GND CTL TOLD US TO FOLLOW THE COMPANY MLG ON OUR LEFT AND CONTACT TWR. WE FOLLOWED THE MLG ONTO A TXWY OFF THE E END OF RWY 24L TO THE HOLD POS BTWN RWY 24L AND 24R. XING THE EXTENDED CENTERLINE OF 24L THE TWR ADVISED US THAT WE WERE XING THE ACTIVE RWY AND AT THE SAME TIME TOLD ANOTHER ACR ON FINAL TO CLB TO 2000'. THE OTHER ACR TOLD THE TWR THAT WE WERE CLR AND HE WAS GOING TO LAND, AND DID. WE WERE CLR AND SITTING BTWN RWY 24L AND 24R WITH THE PARKING BRAKE SET WHEN THE OTHER ACR PASSED US AND LANDED ON 24L. THE F/O AND I BOTH AGREED THAT WE HEARD 'FOLLOW THE COMPANY ON YOUR LEFT AND CONTACT TWR.' AFTER LNDG AT OUR DEST I CALLED THE LAX TWR TO DISCUSS THE MISUNDERSTANDING. SINCE NO INCIDENT OCCURRED, NO ACTION WILL BE TAKEN, BUT THE TWR SUPVR AND I BOTH AGREED THAT IN THE FUTURE BOTH ENDS OF THE OPERATION SHOULD HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE TAXI CLRNC.
