Narrative:
After takeoff the engine #1 hydraulic low pressure light illuminated upon gear retraction. The appropriate QRH procedures were accomplished and the aircraft returned for an overweight landing with a normal touchdown. The aircraft was taxied back to the gate where the appropriate logbook entries were made. The left engine hydraulic pump failed.

Title: B737 Captain reported a return to the departure airport following a #1 Hydraulic Pump failure after takeoff.
Narrative: After takeoff the Engine #1 Hydraulic Low Pressure light illuminated upon gear retraction. The appropriate QRH procedures were accomplished and the aircraft returned for an overweight landing with a normal touchdown. The aircraft was taxied back to the gate where the appropriate logbook entries were made. The left engine hydraulic pump failed.
