Narrative:
While on visual approach received terrain caution. Because it was at night; I disconnected the automation and adjusted flight path to correct error. We were not in landing configuration and re-established lateral and vertical path and continued the visual approach. I had selected level change while on autopilot and in heading select mode to join the localizer; and I believe the rate of descend was a contributing factor to the alert sounding.
