Narrative:

At FL330 en route to south europe about 45 mi south of jfk lost left hydraulic system. Quantity went to 0. Due to close proximity ot jfk, we made a very rapid descent in steps to 7000' qnh. Received altimeter setting from company, which was 30.07. Correct altimeter setting was 29.76. Error was caught at 7000' and remainder of approach and landing was normal. The workload on cockpit crew for such a quick diversion is very high and lends itself to errors.
