Narrative:
On takeoff roll prior to 40 KTS, right oil strainer clogging light illuminated, additionally illuminating the master caution light. Light extinguished immediately. I notified tower of the abort and taxied off the runway. We requested to run up engines. A designated area to do such was assigned by ground control. Both engines were run up, all indications were normal. Systems all indicated within safe parameters. We were repositioned for takeoff and cleared. Second takeoff roll was normal, all indications were go. After landing in newark, maintenance was advised of this problem. The right oil strainer clogging light on the annunciator panel was written up. The FAA questioned our judgement for not returning to gate allowing maintenance to further inspect this problem. When the light illuminated it appeared for only a fraction of a second. After clearing the runway, abnormal section of aircraft manual was complied with. I must emphasize that the problem could not again be duplicated, nor were there any abnormal indications.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG FLT CREW CRITICIZED BY FAA REPRESENTATIVE FOR ATTEMPTING SECOND TKOF AFTER INITIAL ABORT FOR OIL CHIP DETECTOR LIGHT.
Narrative: ON TKOF ROLL PRIOR TO 40 KTS, R OIL STRAINER CLOGGING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, ADDITIONALLY ILLUMINATING THE MASTER CAUTION LIGHT. LIGHT EXTINGUISHED IMMEDIATELY. I NOTIFIED TWR OF THE ABORT AND TAXIED OFF THE RWY. WE REQUESTED TO RUN UP ENGS. A DESIGNATED AREA TO DO SUCH WAS ASSIGNED BY GND CTL. BOTH ENGS WERE RUN UP, ALL INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL. SYSTEMS ALL INDICATED WITHIN SAFE PARAMETERS. WE WERE REPOSITIONED FOR TKOF AND CLRED. SECOND TKOF ROLL WAS NORMAL, ALL INDICATIONS WERE GO. AFTER LNDG IN NEWARK, MAINT WAS ADVISED OF THIS PROB. THE R OIL STRAINER CLOGGING LIGHT ON THE ANNUNCIATOR PANEL WAS WRITTEN UP. THE FAA QUESTIONED OUR JUDGEMENT FOR NOT RETURNING TO GATE ALLOWING MAINT TO FURTHER INSPECT THIS PROB. WHEN THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IT APPEARED FOR ONLY A FRACTION OF A SECOND. AFTER CLRING THE RWY, ABNORMAL SECTION OF ACFT MANUAL WAS COMPLIED WITH. I MUST EMPHASIZE THAT THE PROB COULD NOT AGAIN BE DUPLICATED, NOR WERE THERE ANY ABNORMAL INDICATIONS.
