Narrative:
I called boeing tower 118.3 approximately 8-10 mi north of airport with ATIS. They responded, to enter right downwind for runway 31L and report abeam seattle kingdome (about 2-3 mi north of airport). When on downwind (right) about at departure end of airport, tower called for me to look for an small transport aircraft on left base for runway 31L. I responded I was looking for aircraft. I saw the aircraft a min or two later and reported to tower. Tower cleared me to land on runway 31L. I asked to confirm runway 31L, not right and tower responded runway 31L. I turned right base then right final for runway 31L, the long runway. My passenger heard over speaker, tower say runway 31L 3 times. When on final, over threshold, about 100 ft AGL, tower told me to go around. I started procedures, full throttle, carburetor heat aft flaps up to 20 degrees, establish climb, etc. Tower told me to turn right now. I moved over right runway, trying to climb. They called again, 'turn right, sir, turn right now.' I turned right again. By this time I was about 300 ft AGL and on heading about 030, at maximum angle of climb. I was headed for the hill paralleling airport. The hill is about 300 ft above airport. When tower called, 3 times to turn right, I thought there was an aircraft in front of me perhaps landing on runway 13L. I feel I was put in a very perilous position by tower. I cleared the hill east of the airport by 3-500 ft. I was told by tower to turn downwind right for runway 31R and was cleared to land. I landed west/O event on runway 31R. I found out later that tower had me go around and move right because they were having a wwii vintage bmb type do a low fly-by over runway 31L. I feel tower gave me the wrong runway initially, then confirmed it twice (runway 31L). They then were not watching which direction they were telling me to turn and nearly directed me into a hill. I should have told them I could not comply and continued to climb out over runway 31R. I was below minimum altitude for a few mins, while climbing over the hill, to get onto right downwind for runway 31R. I have been in contact with the tower chief to resolve this issue. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Reporter followed up with tower personnel in attempt to find out what really happened but has not as yet been able to obtain the relevant tape and the supervisor has only said that there was a miscom during the incident and evidently refused to specify whether the miscom was by the controller or the reporter. Reporter confirmed that the problem was getting him out of the way of a wwii vintage bmb type making a low pass over runway 31. He never saw the bmb and does not know the miss distance.

Title: SMA, ON FINAL FOR CLEARED RWY IS GIVEN A LAST MOMENT GO AROUND DIRECTED TOWARD HILL ADJOINING ARPT IN ORDER TO CLEAR SPACE FOR WWII VINTAGE BMB MAKING LOW PASS.
Narrative: I CALLED BOEING TWR 118.3 APPROX 8-10 MI N OF ARPT WITH ATIS. THEY RESPONDED, TO ENTER R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 31L AND RPT ABEAM SEATTLE KINGDOME (ABOUT 2-3 MI N OF ARPT). WHEN ON DOWNWIND (R) ABOUT AT DEP END OF ARPT, TWR CALLED FOR ME TO LOOK FOR AN SMT ACFT ON L BASE FOR RWY 31L. I RESPONDED I WAS LOOKING FOR ACFT. I SAW THE ACFT A MIN OR TWO LATER AND RPTED TO TWR. TWR CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 31L. I ASKED TO CONFIRM RWY 31L, NOT R AND TWR RESPONDED RWY 31L. I TURNED R BASE THEN R FINAL FOR RWY 31L, THE LONG RWY. MY PAX HEARD OVER SPEAKER, TWR SAY RWY 31L 3 TIMES. WHEN ON FINAL, OVER THRESHOLD, ABOUT 100 FT AGL, TWR TOLD ME TO GO AROUND. I STARTED PROCS, FULL THROTTLE, CARB HEAT AFT FLAPS UP TO 20 DEGS, ESTABLISH CLB, ETC. TWR TOLD ME TO TURN R NOW. I MOVED OVER R RWY, TRYING TO CLB. THEY CALLED AGAIN, 'TURN R, SIR, TURN R NOW.' I TURNED R AGAIN. BY THIS TIME I WAS ABOUT 300 FT AGL AND ON HDG ABOUT 030, AT MAX ANGLE OF CLB. I WAS HEADED FOR THE HILL PARALLELING ARPT. THE HILL IS ABOUT 300 FT ABOVE ARPT. WHEN TWR CALLED, 3 TIMES TO TURN R, I THOUGHT THERE WAS AN ACFT IN FRONT OF ME PERHAPS LNDG ON RWY 13L. I FEEL I WAS PUT IN A VERY PERILOUS POS BY TWR. I CLRED THE HILL E OF THE ARPT BY 3-500 FT. I WAS TOLD BY TWR TO TURN DOWNWIND R FOR RWY 31R AND WAS CLRED TO LAND. I LANDED W/O EVENT ON RWY 31R. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT TWR HAD ME GO AROUND AND MOVE R BECAUSE THEY WERE HAVING A WWII VINTAGE BMB TYPE DO A LOW FLY-BY OVER RWY 31L. I FEEL TWR GAVE ME THE WRONG RWY INITIALLY, THEN CONFIRMED IT TWICE (RWY 31L). THEY THEN WERE NOT WATCHING WHICH DIRECTION THEY WERE TELLING ME TO TURN AND NEARLY DIRECTED ME INTO A HILL. I SHOULD HAVE TOLD THEM I COULD NOT COMPLY AND CONTINUED TO CLB OUT OVER RWY 31R. I WAS BELOW MINIMUM ALT FOR A FEW MINS, WHILE CLBING OVER THE HILL, TO GET ONTO R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 31R. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE TWR CHIEF TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. RPTR FOLLOWED UP WITH TWR PERSONNEL IN ATTEMPT TO FIND OUT WHAT REALLY HAPPENED BUT HAS NOT AS YET BEEN ABLE TO OBTAIN THE RELEVANT TAPE AND THE SUPVR HAS ONLY SAID THAT THERE WAS A MISCOM DURING THE INCIDENT AND EVIDENTLY REFUSED TO SPECIFY WHETHER THE MISCOM WAS BY THE CTLR OR THE RPTR. RPTR CONFIRMED THAT THE PROB WAS GETTING HIM OUT OF THE WAY OF A WWII VINTAGE BMB TYPE MAKING A LOW PASS OVER RWY 31. HE NEVER SAW THE BMB AND DOES NOT KNOW THE MISS DISTANCE.
