Narrative:
Approximately 20 mi south of ftw in an small aircraft I called the ftw tower for landing on runway 16. I was told to report 1 mi east of downtown for a left downwind to runway 16L. Approaching that point at 2500' MSL I began a gradual descent to pattern altitude and was informed of a southeast departure from the field. Upon reaching the reporting point another aircraft called and gave his position as 1 mi east of downtown. I called in after him and then spotted him below me and to the side slightly behind. I was faster than him and there was no conflict. Looking ahead I saw traffic at 11 O'clock my altitude within 1 mi or less. I began a gradual right turn and then realized we were on a collision course. I cut power, rolled hard right, and nosed down. I saw him roll hard right about the time I began my hard turn. I did not see him pass but estimate we missed each other by 50-100'. Since we were both VFR the only solution to this type of conflict I could suggest would be VFR corridors for approach to and departure from ftw or establishment of a TRSA.

Title: CLOSE PROX GA SMAT ENERING TRAFFIC PATTERN SE OF FTW AND UNK ACFT ON A SE DEP FROM FTW.
Narrative: APPROX 20 MI S OF FTW IN AN SMA I CALLED THE FTW TWR FOR LNDG ON RWY 16. I WAS TOLD TO RPT 1 MI E OF DOWNTOWN FOR A L DOWNWIND TO RWY 16L. APCHING THAT POINT AT 2500' MSL I BEGAN A GRADUAL DSNT TO PATTERN ALT AND WAS INFORMED OF A SE DEP FROM THE FIELD. UPON REACHING THE RPTING POINT ANOTHER ACFT CALLED AND GAVE HIS POS AS 1 MI E OF DOWNTOWN. I CALLED IN AFTER HIM AND THEN SPOTTED HIM BELOW ME AND TO THE SIDE SLIGHTLY BEHIND. I WAS FASTER THAN HIM AND THERE WAS NO CONFLICT. LOOKING AHEAD I SAW TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK MY ALT WITHIN 1 MI OR LESS. I BEGAN A GRADUAL R TURN AND THEN REALIZED WE WERE ON A COLLISION COURSE. I CUT PWR, ROLLED HARD R, AND NOSED DOWN. I SAW HIM ROLL HARD R ABOUT THE TIME I BEGAN MY HARD TURN. I DID NOT SEE HIM PASS BUT ESTIMATE WE MISSED EACH OTHER BY 50-100'. SINCE WE WERE BOTH VFR THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THIS TYPE OF CONFLICT I COULD SUGGEST WOULD BE VFR CORRIDORS FOR APCH TO AND DEP FROM FTW OR ESTABLISHMENT OF A TRSA.
