Narrative:
An small aircraft reported a problem with a high oil temperature and made a precautionary landing at an intermediate airport to see if oil temperature gauge was ok. Other parameters were all ok, cylinder head temperature and oil pressure. While on approach to airport pilot was instructed to report airport in sight and inadvertently knocked a radio switch off with his arm while in light chop. After contacting airport tower he was advised that tower was unable to talk with him and had to divert some other aircraft to other runway account no communication. After a maintenance man confirmed a faulty oil temperature gauge, he left without repairs to gauge as mechanic said he could go and use caution and if the other temperatures and pressures were ok then he could make it. Some concern as cylinder head temperature appeared to be high and he circled airport of departure until confirming cylinder head temperatures ok and went on to original destination.

Title: AN SMA PLT LANDS AT AN INTERMEDIATE ARPT TO CHECK OUT HIS HIGH OIL TEMP READINGS.
Narrative: AN SMA RPTED A PROB WITH A HIGH OIL TEMP AND MADE A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG AT AN INTERMEDIATE ARPT TO SEE IF OIL TEMP GAUGE WAS OK. OTHER PARAMETERS WERE ALL OK, CYLINDER HEAD TEMP AND OIL PRESSURE. WHILE ON APCH TO ARPT PLT WAS INSTRUCTED TO RPT ARPT IN SIGHT AND INADVERTENTLY KNOCKED A RADIO SWITCH OFF WITH HIS ARM WHILE IN LIGHT CHOP. AFTER CONTACTING ARPT TWR HE WAS ADVISED THAT TWR WAS UNABLE TO TALK WITH HIM AND HAD TO DIVERT SOME OTHER ACFT TO OTHER RWY ACCOUNT NO COM. AFTER A MAINT MAN CONFIRMED A FAULTY OIL TEMP GAUGE, HE LEFT WITHOUT REPAIRS TO GAUGE AS MECH SAID HE COULD GO AND USE CAUTION AND IF THE OTHER TEMPS AND PRESSURES WERE OK THEN HE COULD MAKE IT. SOME CONCERN AS CYLINDER HEAD TEMP APPEARED TO BE HIGH AND HE CIRCLED ARPT OF DEP UNTIL CONFIRMING CYLINDER HEAD TEMPS OK AND WENT ON TO ORIGINAL DEST.
