Narrative:
#3 engine failed leveling off at FL390. Emergency was declared and a vector by ATC was given to den. Checklists were accomplished per operating procedures. Den tower and approach set us up for runway 17L which worked fine. However, tower (den) tried to hard, I believe, to keep traffic flowing in and out of runway 17L with us on a 5 mi final. Traffic landed ahead of us when we were on about 4 mi final followed by clearance for a heavy widebody transport I think, for an immediate takeoff. We were about a 2 mi final or less. We side stepped to runway 17R, intercepted the VASI and landed west/O incident. The heavy rotated on runway 17L about the time of our T/D on runway 17R. Too close, much too close for an aircraft with a declared emergency. On roll out and by prior arrangement with tower, we expected to stop on the runway or to clear if the turnoffs worked out and to have the crash truck(south) follow us to look over for fuel leaking or fire. We cleared and after 8-12 other ground control xmissions finally got a word in to find out if crash trucks were at our #3 engine. We were told 'you are not the only on the ground.' what can I say?! We were speechless. We were instructed then to pull ahead, round a corner and stop. No attempt to handle us as other than routine (poor routine at that) was made. The captain called he supervisor who defended his controllers. I guess even emergencys may be affected by the traffic increases of late.

Title: ACR WDB FLT CREW UNHAPPY WITH ATC HANDLING OF A DECLARED EMERGENCY. ENGINE FAILED AT FL390 AND ACFT DIVERTED TO DEN.
Narrative: #3 ENG FAILED LEVELING OFF AT FL390. EMER WAS DECLARED AND A VECTOR BY ATC WAS GIVEN TO DEN. CHKLISTS WERE ACCOMPLISHED PER OPERATING PROCS. DEN TWR AND APCH SET US UP FOR RWY 17L WHICH WORKED FINE. HOWEVER, TWR (DEN) TRIED TO HARD, I BELIEVE, TO KEEP TFC FLOWING IN AND OUT OF RWY 17L WITH US ON A 5 MI FINAL. TFC LANDED AHEAD OF US WHEN WE WERE ON ABOUT 4 MI FINAL FOLLOWED BY CLRNC FOR A HVY WDB I THINK, FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF. WE WERE ABOUT A 2 MI FINAL OR LESS. WE SIDE STEPPED TO RWY 17R, INTERCEPTED THE VASI AND LANDED W/O INCIDENT. THE HVY ROTATED ON RWY 17L ABOUT THE TIME OF OUR T/D ON RWY 17R. TOO CLOSE, MUCH TOO CLOSE FOR AN ACFT WITH A DECLARED EMER. ON ROLL OUT AND BY PRIOR ARRANGEMENT WITH TWR, WE EXPECTED TO STOP ON THE RWY OR TO CLR IF THE TURNOFFS WORKED OUT AND TO HAVE THE CRASH TRUCK(S) FOLLOW US TO LOOK OVER FOR FUEL LEAKING OR FIRE. WE CLRED AND AFTER 8-12 OTHER GND CTL XMISSIONS FINALLY GOT A WORD IN TO FIND OUT IF CRASH TRUCKS WERE AT OUR #3 ENG. WE WERE TOLD 'YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ON THE GND.' WHAT CAN I SAY?! WE WERE SPEECHLESS. WE WERE INSTRUCTED THEN TO PULL AHEAD, ROUND A CORNER AND STOP. NO ATTEMPT TO HANDLE US AS OTHER THAN ROUTINE (POOR ROUTINE AT THAT) WAS MADE. THE CAPT CALLED HE SUPVR WHO DEFENDED HIS CTLRS. I GUESS EVEN EMERS MAY BE AFFECTED BY THE TFC INCREASES OF LATE.
