Narrative:
I was flying the aircraft at 1500' MSL on an intercept heading for the 024 degree right ILS. Approach control cleared us to intercept and 'cleared for the approach.' approach and landing were normal, and after clearing the active the first officer requested clearance to cross 04L. It was at this time he realized he was still on approach control frequency. We discussed whether or not we had received landing clearance, but no one could recall hearing one. We also agreed that the approach controller had never given us a tower change-over. Contributing factors: 1) the usual fatigue following a long all night flight (sfo-jfk), even though all other aspects of the approach were performed in a professional manner by the entire crew. Routine dawn approach. 2) first officer has been coping with several different recent family traumas requiring travel and high time activity during days off. This, along with the associated emotional stress possibly caused him to be more fatigued than otherwise expected.

Title: FLT CREW OF WDB ACR LNDG JFK FORGETS TO CONTACT THE TWR FOR LNDG CLRNC DUE TO FATIGUE AND THE LACK OF AN INSTRUCTION TO SWITCH FREQ BY THE APCH CTLR.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING THE ACFT AT 1500' MSL ON AN INTERCEPT HDG FOR THE 024 DEG R ILS. APCH CTL CLRED US TO INTERCEPT AND 'CLRED FOR THE APCH.' APCH AND LNDG WERE NORMAL, AND AFTER CLRING THE ACTIVE THE F/O REQUESTED CLRNC TO CROSS 04L. IT WAS AT THIS TIME HE REALIZED HE WAS STILL ON APCH CTL FREQ. WE DISCUSSED WHETHER OR NOT WE HAD RECEIVED LNDG CLRNC, BUT NO ONE COULD RECALL HEARING ONE. WE ALSO AGREED THAT THE APCH CTLR HAD NEVER GIVEN US A TWR CHANGE-OVER. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: 1) THE USUAL FATIGUE FOLLOWING A LONG ALL NIGHT FLT (SFO-JFK), EVEN THOUGH ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF THE APCH WERE PERFORMED IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER BY THE ENTIRE CREW. ROUTINE DAWN APCH. 2) F/O HAS BEEN COPING WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT RECENT FAMILY TRAUMAS REQUIRING TRAVEL AND HIGH TIME ACTIVITY DURING DAYS OFF. THIS, ALONG WITH THE ASSOCIATED EMOTIONAL STRESS POSSIBLY CAUSED HIM TO BE MORE FATIGUED THAN OTHERWISE EXPECTED.
