Narrative:
Executed a low altitude go-around due to unstable approach. Aircraft touched down firmly on the runway during the missed approach. Went around and landed normally thereafter. Complied with fom mandatory reports associated with hard landings.gusty winds leading to unstable condition late in the approach. Not sure it could have been; given the timing of the gust leading to unstable condition. Keep runway safety and go-around training. Also; keep training on a 6 month schedule. First officer did an excellent job throughout.

Title: MD-11 Captain reported an unstable approach due to gusty wind conditions. The aircraft touched down firmly on the runway as a go-around procedure was initiated; however; a subsequent approach was successfully completed.
