Narrative:
I asked miami center for VFR flight following and I received a squawk code. When transferred to miami approach I was asked to stay outside bravo airspace so I descended to 1;000 feet to also be at pattern altitude to my destination. About 7 miles from my destination I let approach know that I had the field in sight and he acknowledged me; but did not hand me over to tower. When I was already almost over the airport I was trying to contact him to see if I can switch over to tower; but he was very busy and I could not get a word in. Right before I decided to go to tower on my own; there was a jet departing from runway 9L that came too close [for] comfort; forcing me to make a very sharp turn. I then switched to tower on my own and he had no idea where I had come from or my intension to land there.
