Narrative:
As I prepared my cart for service; I heard a passenger yell fire. There was smoke and flames coming from [the] row where a backpack was on fire. I called the flight deck and told them there was a cabin fire and that I was going to fight the fire and would get back with them once it was extinguished. I took the halon fire extinguisher back to [the] row where the burning backpack was pulled out into the center isle and I discharged the contents of the halon fire extinguisher on the burning backpack. The fire was extinguished and I retrieved the avsax yellow bag and according to instructions filled it with water; placed the still hot battery inside the bag and sealed it. It was a double a lithium battery which I believe caused the fire.
