Narrative:
The first officer was flying a visibility approach to runway 36 backed up by the VOR/DME 36 approach was conducted with autobrakes #2 and 40 degree flaps selected for landing. All phases of the approach were normal with airspeed at bug to bug + 5 and on the VASI G/south. T/D occurred in the first third of the runway and reverse was selected immediately after landing. Autobrakes did not seem to be slowing the aircraft so maximum braking was initiated by the first officer and then by the captain. The aircraft came to rest with the nose wheel approximately 10' beyond the asphalt overrun. Main wheels remained on the runway. Supplemental information from acn 152292: solution would be to make the runway longer.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RWY TURN OFF OVERSHOT AND MLG ENDS UP ON OVERRUN WITH NOSE GEAR 10' PAST END OF OVERRUN. VASI APCH SYSTEM USED BY FO, PF. RWY EXCURSION.
Narrative: THE F/O WAS FLYING A VIS APCH TO RWY 36 BACKED UP BY THE VOR/DME 36 APCH WAS CONDUCTED WITH AUTOBRAKES #2 AND 40 DEG FLAPS SELECTED FOR LNDG. ALL PHASES OF THE APCH WERE NORMAL WITH AIRSPD AT BUG TO BUG + 5 AND ON THE VASI G/S. T/D OCCURRED IN THE FIRST THIRD OF THE RWY AND REVERSE WAS SELECTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER LNDG. AUTOBRAKES DID NOT SEEM TO BE SLOWING THE ACFT SO MAX BRAKING WAS INITIATED BY THE F/O AND THEN BY THE CAPT. THE ACFT CAME TO REST WITH THE NOSE WHEEL APPROX 10' BEYOND THE ASPHALT OVERRUN. MAIN WHEELS REMAINED ON THE RWY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 152292: SOLUTION WOULD BE TO MAKE THE RWY LONGER.
