Narrative:

We were following a B777 into lax on the irnmn 1. We were in the vicinity of dahjr at 6000 MSL and 160 KIAS. Approach slowed us several times below published speeds to remain behind the B777. We were approximately seven miles from the heavy. We were given a descent to 4000 MSL. We had a slight quartering tailwind. We encountered the wake from the B777 which caused a significant upset from level flight. The 70 degree bank was a comment about the significance but was not corroborated on aircraft instruments. The first officer did a fine job maintaining aircraft control and we executed the remaining descent and landing without incident. We were contacted by the lead flight attendant on the ground that the C flight attendant had been injured during the event. We contacted operations and had medical assistance meet the aircraft. We contacted socal and the operations regarding the encounter. The la operations staff did an excellent job attending to the care of our injured crew member.we had what would be considered adequate distance from the B777. The quartering tailwind may have contributed. Not sure exactly how to avoid this particular event except even more distance added.
