Narrative:
While in cruise at FL470; in clear calm conditions with the autopilot on; near the front range we encountered moderate turbulence caused by a severe mountain wave with [our aircraft] climbing instantly 300 ft. We disconnected the autopilot and corrected our altitude; maintaining level flight. We also called ATC and asked for FL430. As soon as clearance was given we started our descent. Stay alert.
