Narrative:

Coming in on the carmel visual for runway 28L at appropriate altitudes we were instructed to turn base we had spacing from airport but due to terrain on this visual arrival procedure we received terrain warnings due to the rate of descent requirements from the spacing of the valleythe cause of this event was the instructions to turn base and rate of descent; I believe. Suggestions: my suggestion is not accept this visual procedure anymore; it takes you over the highest terrain side of the airport; then doesn't allow much spacing to turn base to final. I personally will not accept this visual procedure anymore entry from the other side of the airport is more efficient and safer with less terrain.
