Narrative:
Flight received ATC clearance via tower frequency. On taxi out first officer wrote cleared destination as file, fonta 1A intersection, maintain 3000' squawk XXX. First officer asked captain 'what intersection?' captain said verify he said meros intersection. Readback to tower 'fonta 1A, meros transition', first officer read it back that way. Tower said readback correct cleared for takeoff. Aircraft departed runway 19 following SID fonta 1A to meros intersection as flight had been filed. (Fonta 1A meros, UB16 cumas, dgn, U546 salaz, UG5 lau G5 werra, B295 hlc cc edbt). On heading 360 degree, 013 degree radial mhh VOR to meros at 3000' captain asked departure control for traffic as flight was restr to 3000'. Pmi controller said 'you were cleared to lunar intersection (on UG253 and not an intersection on fanto 1A SID) fly heading 090.' flight eventually flew via lunar intersection to baun intersection UA24NIZ to abn NDB calbenaga to vog, UG375 srn direct danne intersection UA9 UG5. Clearance was missed because of controller's accent. Flight never received full arwys clearance until italy. The spanish and the french appeared not to have any flight plan. In mallorca cleared as filed must have been said as a matter of routine, so was 'readback correct.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW HAS TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING THE NAME OF AN INTERSECTION IN THEIR CLRNC AS RECEIVED PRIOR TO DEPARTING PMI, SPAIN. AFTER READING BACK THE INTERSECTION NAME THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE ASSIGNED, AND AFTER HAVING THE CTLR VERIFY THAT THEIR READBACK WAS CORRECT, THEY DEPARTED ONLY TO BE TOLD LATER THAT THEY WERE CLEARED FOR ANOTHER INTERSECTION.
Narrative: FLT RECEIVED ATC CLRNC VIA TWR FREQ. ON TAXI OUT FO WROTE CLRED DEST AS FILE, FONTA 1A INTXN, MAINTAIN 3000' SQUAWK XXX. FO ASKED CAPT 'WHAT INTXN?' CAPT SAID VERIFY HE SAID MEROS INTXN. READBACK TO TWR 'FONTA 1A, MEROS TRANSITION', FO READ IT BACK THAT WAY. TWR SAID READBACK CORRECT CLRED FOR TKOF. ACFT DEPARTED RWY 19 FOLLOWING SID FONTA 1A TO MEROS INTXN AS FLT HAD BEEN FILED. (FONTA 1A MEROS, UB16 CUMAS, DGN, U546 SALAZ, UG5 LAU G5 WERRA, B295 HLC CC EDBT). ON HDG 360 DEG, 013 DEG RADIAL MHH VOR TO MEROS AT 3000' CAPT ASKED DEP CTL FOR TFC AS FLT WAS RESTR TO 3000'. PMI CTLR SAID 'YOU WERE CLRED TO LUNAR INTXN (ON UG253 AND NOT AN INTXN ON FANTO 1A SID) FLY HDG 090.' FLT EVENTUALLY FLEW VIA LUNAR INTXN TO BAUN INTXN UA24NIZ TO ABN NDB CALBENAGA TO VOG, UG375 SRN DIRECT DANNE INTXN UA9 UG5. CLRNC WAS MISSED BECAUSE OF CTLR'S ACCENT. FLT NEVER RECEIVED FULL ARWYS CLRNC UNTIL ITALY. THE SPANISH AND THE FRENCH APPEARED NOT TO HAVE ANY FLT PLAN. IN MALLORCA CLRED AS FILED MUST HAVE BEEN SAID AS A MATTER OF ROUTINE, SO WAS 'READBACK CORRECT.'
