Narrative:
Contacted bur tower at the OM and was cleared to land on runway 7 and instructed to hold short of the intersecting runway 15 for departure traffic. On short final I realized I was 'high hot' but I thought I could continue the approach, and stop short of runway 15 as instructed, probably due to my lack of experience in a STOL equipped small aircraft. I landed short of runway 15 but was unable to safely bring the aircraft to a stop until crossing the intersection of runway 15. Bur tower instructed the aircraft departing on runway 15 to hold his position and fortunately a potentially hazardous incident was prevented. On short final at bur, upon realizing I was 'high and hot' I should have initiated a go around and informed bur tower of my intentions as soon as practical. In spite of the fact that I am technically and legally current in sel aircraft; it would have been prudent to obtain a chkout in this particular STOL equipped aircraft prior to acting as PIC.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RWY TRANSGRESSION BY SMA AT BUR.
Narrative: CONTACTED BUR TWR AT THE OM AND WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 7 AND INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF THE INTERSECTING RWY 15 FOR DEP TFC. ON SHORT FINAL I REALIZED I WAS 'HIGH HOT' BUT I THOUGHT I COULD CONTINUE THE APCH, AND STOP SHORT OF RWY 15 AS INSTRUCTED, PROBABLY DUE TO MY LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN A STOL EQUIPPED SMA. I LANDED SHORT OF RWY 15 BUT WAS UNABLE TO SAFELY BRING THE ACFT TO A STOP UNTIL XING THE INTXN OF RWY 15. BUR TWR INSTRUCTED THE ACFT DEPARTING ON RWY 15 TO HOLD HIS POS AND FORTUNATELY A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS INCIDENT WAS PREVENTED. ON SHORT FINAL AT BUR, UPON REALIZING I WAS 'HIGH AND HOT' I SHOULD HAVE INITIATED A GO AROUND AND INFORMED BUR TWR OF MY INTENTIONS AS SOON AS PRACTICAL. IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT I AM TECHNICALLY AND LEGALLY CURRENT IN SEL ACFT; IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PRUDENT TO OBTAIN A CHKOUT IN THIS PARTICULAR STOL EQUIPPED ACFT PRIOR TO ACTING AS PIC.
