Narrative:
After landing runway 8R in mia; exited runway on taxiway M9. Wind was strong and gusty and I (flying pilot) had added a few knots to the approach speed; and having plenty of runway did not want to get overly aggressive with the brakes. When we exited the runway I did not turn into taxiway M but wanted to make sure that the tail of the aircraft would clear the runway and not become a problem with ATC so I went a little past the point where we could make a right turn into taxiway M if we needed to. Having arrived in mia early morning on several occasions we are usually cleared straight into taxiway north; so I did not expect the next clearance which was to make a right turn into taxiway M. I asked the first officer to inform the controller that we couldn't make the turn; and he told the controller that we were slightly past being able to accomplish that. The controller's tone upon being informed this appeared to be one of slight irritation. [The controller] asked another airplane on north to stop; and told us to taxi west on north and back out on M. We did so; and the first officer contacted ramp afterwards and we were cleared into spot xx; which is not exactly located where the taxi diagram shows; [not being] very well painted or visible particularly at that time of day; or where I expected it to be. I finally found it and taxied to the gate.

Title: Air carrier Captain reported a taxiway incursion at Miami airport.
Narrative: After landing Runway 8R in MIA; exited runway on taxiway M9. Having arrived in MIA early morning on several occasions we are usually cleared straight into taxiway N; so I did not expect the next clearance which was to make a right turn into taxiway M. I asked the First Officer to inform the controller that we couldn't make the turn; and he told the controller that we were slightly past being able to accomplish that. The controller's tone upon being informed this appeared to be one of slight irritation. [The controller] asked another airplane on N to stop; and told us to taxi west on N and back out on M. We did so; and the First Officer contacted ramp afterwards and we were cleared into spot XX; which is not exactly located where the taxi diagram shows; [not being] very well painted or visible particularly at that time of day; or where I expected it to be. I finally found it and taxied to the gate.
