Narrative:
In cruise at FL310 from mci to phl on J152 just west of jst, #2 engine over heat light illuminated. #2 throttle retarded to idle per checklist, immediate descent requested. Light did not extinguish. Procedure calls for engine fire procedures to be accomplished under this condition. Engine #2 was shut down, further descent requested with radar vectors to pit, 46 mi west of our position. Emergency declared and engine inoperative uls landing made at pit. My crew acted flawlessly during this situation and passengers did not appear to be too distressed as they immediately boarded another aircraft to continue to phl. Supplemental information from acn 153374. Crash fire rescue equipment saw no indications of fire after landing so we taxied to ramp. Have not had an opportunity to see what caused the problem. No circuit breaker's were popped and the fire detection system checked ok prior to start. ATC (cle center) was most cooperative. Crew coordination with the captain seemed smooth and efficient. The F/as conducted themselves in calm professional manner.
