Narrative:

Received e-gpws terrain warning during visual approach to runway 21 in durango; colorado (dro). Terrain was visually in sight and verbalized but warning was issued due to aircraft configuration below 1000 AGL [and] due to rising terrain on final approach. Aircraft was not fully configured yet due to descending and decelerating profile on a 7-8 mile final. Executed go-around and landed without incident. This was my first time flying into dro and rising terrain on final was deceiving during descent and approach. Rising terrain on final required a steeper descent profile than I expected and I wasn't configured early enough to satisfy this requirement. Suggestions: aircraft should have been slowed and configured earlier in the approach. E-gpws warning would not have been issued if aircraft was fully configured prior to encountering rising terrain on 7-8 mile final.
