Narrative:

While working on the number 2 display fan I was using a small pair of vice-grips to hold an adel clamp in position. After numerous attempts and orientations I was unable to get the fasteners to align with the current setup. I then removed the vice-grips to attempt a new technique and I failed to remove them for the insulation blanket that I had them resting on. The tooling was discovered by a different maintenance crew while working on the #1 display fan replacement a few days later.the location of the number 2 display fan and the access panel it is accessed through is too small for the average person to fit inside to work. The orientation required allows the mechanic to either look at the area or to get a hand on the area; not both at the same time. After orienting myself numerous times over the course of the job and struggling with the install; I overlooked the tooling that I had placed out of the way; but within reach should I have needed it again.upon being notified; I have taken actions to shadow my tool box better to ensure that I don't make the same mistake again. [Suggest] around the clock inspectors to inspect panels/compartments after work has been performed to give the 'ok to close' approval. Require removal/replacement of parts to require dual signatures to ensure that a second set of eyes clears the compartment that was opened.
