Narrative:
Sat-atl circumnaving thunderstorms with anti-ice on. Center requested and I accepted clearance to leave FL330 and climb to FL350 for traffic and it would help our WX situation. At approximately FL34.5, encountered 'jet wash' type turbulence. Aircraft was not performing vigorously. F/a's reported loud banging of left engine. By this time, I had advanced throttles to 'mct' power and kept it there. I 'nosed' the aircraft to FL350 as we began calling for a lower altitude. Center was busy with other aircraft and we could not get a word in. Even though engine instruments appeared normal for 'mct' power, I felt F/a's described left engine as experiencing compressor stalls. Airspeed was stable but not accelerating. I determined that aircraft was not performing well nor did it have the ability to perform vigorously for whatever reason. We were in this situation approximately 2 min and unable to break through to center. I began a slow descent and finally reestablished radio contact with center at approximately FL34.2. Engine compressor stalls stopped at approximately FL34.5. Center was very helpful once he understood our needs. I reported moderate turbulence to center. I did not declare an emergency or squawk 7700. We continued flight to atlanta uneventfully and wrote up left engine in maintenance logbook for compressor stalls in turbulence.

Title: ADVCKPT MLG EXPERIENCES COMPRESSOR STALL WHEN ENCOUNTERING WX RELATED TURBULANCE DURING CLIMB FROM FL330 TO FL350.
Narrative: SAT-ATL CIRCUMNAVING TSTMS WITH ANTI-ICE ON. CTR REQUESTED AND I ACCEPTED CLRNC TO LEAVE FL330 AND CLB TO FL350 FOR TFC AND IT WOULD HELP OUR WX SITUATION. AT APPROX FL34.5, ENCOUNTERED 'JET WASH' TYPE TURB. ACFT WAS NOT PERFORMING VIGOROUSLY. F/A'S RPTED LOUD BANGING OF L ENG. BY THIS TIME, I HAD ADVANCED THROTTLES TO 'MCT' PWR AND KEPT IT THERE. I 'NOSED' THE ACFT TO FL350 AS WE BEGAN CALLING FOR A LOWER ALT. CTR WAS BUSY WITH OTHER ACFT AND WE COULD NOT GET A WORD IN. EVEN THOUGH ENG INSTS APPEARED NORMAL FOR 'MCT' PWR, I FELT F/A'S DESCRIBED L ENG AS EXPERIENCING COMPRESSOR STALLS. AIRSPD WAS STABLE BUT NOT ACCELERATING. I DETERMINED THAT ACFT WAS NOT PERFORMING WELL NOR DID IT HAVE THE ABILITY TO PERFORM VIGOROUSLY FOR WHATEVER REASON. WE WERE IN THIS SITUATION APPROX 2 MIN AND UNABLE TO BREAK THROUGH TO CTR. I BEGAN A SLOW DSNT AND FINALLY REESTABLISHED RADIO CONTACT WITH CTR AT APPROX FL34.2. ENG COMPRESSOR STALLS STOPPED AT APPROX FL34.5. CTR WAS VERY HELPFUL ONCE HE UNDERSTOOD OUR NEEDS. I RPTED MODERATE TURB TO CTR. I DID NOT DECLARE AN EMER OR SQUAWK 7700. WE CONTINUED FLT TO ATLANTA UNEVENTFULLY AND WROTE UP L ENG IN MAINT LOGBOOK FOR COMPRESSOR STALLS IN TURB.
