Narrative:
Flight originated in atlanta for hamburg, germany, with stop in london. Experienced 1:20 delay in atlanta and 1:50 delay in london (ATC). Flight approaching hamburg cleared to 2500' and vectored for localizer only approach to runway 23. Flight turned on to localizer inside final approach fix at 2500'. I was fatigued and neglected to tune in alf VORTAC for DME distance to airport. Required distance to airport, tower replied 5+ mi. On localizer, initiated descent towards MDA. Descent took us into clear with light rain, but 1 mi from marker due to steep descent to accomplish MDA at comfortable distance from runway. First officer went below 1300' LOM crossing altitude to (approximately 1000'). I called 'level off' and first officer complied. The airport environment was in sight. We maintained approximately 1000' MSL until VASI intercepted and proceeded to complete the approach to a routine landing.

Title: WDB FLT CREW ON APCH TO HAMBURG IS TURNED INSIDE FAF. DESCENDS PRIOR TO LOM, REALIZES ERROR AND LEVELS OFF.
Narrative: FLT ORIGINATED IN ATLANTA FOR HAMBURG, GERMANY, WITH STOP IN LONDON. EXPERIENCED 1:20 DELAY IN ATLANTA AND 1:50 DELAY IN LONDON (ATC). FLT APCHING HAMBURG CLRED TO 2500' AND VECTORED FOR LOC ONLY APCH TO RWY 23. FLT TURNED ON TO LOC INSIDE FINAL APCH FIX AT 2500'. I WAS FATIGUED AND NEGLECTED TO TUNE IN ALF VORTAC FOR DME DISTANCE TO ARPT. REQUIRED DISTANCE TO ARPT, TWR REPLIED 5+ MI. ON LOC, INITIATED DSNT TOWARDS MDA. DSNT TOOK US INTO CLR WITH LIGHT RAIN, BUT 1 MI FROM MARKER DUE TO STEEP DSNT TO ACCOMPLISH MDA AT COMFORTABLE DISTANCE FROM RWY. F/O WENT BELOW 1300' LOM XING ALT TO (APPROX 1000'). I CALLED 'LEVEL OFF' AND F/O COMPLIED. THE ARPT ENVIRONMENT WAS IN SIGHT. WE MAINTAINED APPROX 1000' MSL UNTIL VASI INTERCEPTED AND PROCEEDED TO COMPLETE THE APCH TO A ROUTINE LNDG.
