Narrative:
Checked in with atl center with opd identifier and with our landing direction south. When we were handed off to clt approach we (again) checked in with opd and landing south. Approach informed us we would be landing north. We re-loaded the FMS with a north landing and informed clt approach we were going to struggle to make the crossing restriction with the change. The approach controller said 'he sees us making the crossing'. (We knew it was going to be close) we were given a vector and given a phone number to call. Changing our landing direction from what we had been flying from the atl controller to the clt approach controller. Miscommunication. We needed to know the landing direction before we got to the approach controller.
