Narrative:
On visibility approach to gcn we passed directly over an aircraft with less than 200' sep. Center had advised us of several VFR targets and we had contact on several more. We were scanning very hard just prior to the near midair collision due to known heavy concentration of traffic westbound at 10500' and 8500'. See and avoid doesn't work all the time. We were looking hard the few mins prior and failed to see this traffic. With the amount of traffic in gcn during peak season its just a matter of time until a mid-air happens. Terminal radar/approach control would be a bit step in preventing this.
