Narrative:
Approaching the OM on runway 6L dayton, approach control reported varying RVR with T/D currently at 1600. We were then handed over to dayton tower just prior to the marker and we reported approaching the marker. Just as dayton tower issued landing clearance and an RVR report, the autoplt disengaged and the aircraft began to descend. This confusion resulted in our 'turning out' what the tower controller said the RVR was, so once the autoplt was reengaged and operating normally I reinquired of the tower as to the RVR and was told it was 700'. I elected to continue the approach (CAT ii) and saw and landed on runway 6L west/O further incident. The reason for this report is that I am not sure if the below limit RVR was announced to us just prior to or after interception of the final approach segment of the approach.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MG APCH LNDG IN WXT REPORED BELOW ARPT LNDG MINIMUMS.
Narrative: APCHING THE OM ON RWY 6L DAYTON, APCH CTL RPTED VARYING RVR WITH T/D CURRENTLY AT 1600. WE WERE THEN HANDED OVER TO DAYTON TWR JUST PRIOR TO THE MARKER AND WE RPTED APCHING THE MARKER. JUST AS DAYTON TWR ISSUED LNDG CLRNC AND AN RVR RPT, THE AUTOPLT DISENGAGED AND THE ACFT BEGAN TO DSND. THIS CONFUSION RESULTED IN OUR 'TURNING OUT' WHAT THE TWR CTLR SAID THE RVR WAS, SO ONCE THE AUTOPLT WAS REENGAGED AND OPERATING NORMALLY I REINQUIRED OF THE TWR AS TO THE RVR AND WAS TOLD IT WAS 700'. I ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE APCH (CAT II) AND SAW AND LANDED ON RWY 6L W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. THE REASON FOR THIS RPT IS THAT I AM NOT SURE IF THE BELOW LIMIT RVR WAS ANNOUNCED TO US JUST PRIOR TO OR AFTER INTERCEPTION OF THE FINAL APCH SEGMENT OF THE APCH.
