Narrative:
I departed ZZZ and flew east at an elevation of approximately 3;000 feet; to remain outside ZZZ1 control zone until I was northeast of the airport and the runways were in sight. At that point I was pretty much lined up with runway xx and about 5 miles northeast of the airport.I contacted ZZZ1 tower requesting landing. I was told to enter downwind for runway xl. I had a difficulty understanding the controller; but proceeded to alter my course to fly north of the airport for the xl downwind. I was [several] miles north of xl; what I felt was a reasonable downwind distance from the runway (there is a considerable hill restricting further travel north).the controller was working a pilatus turboprop that he had on right downwind for xl and became concerned for a traffic conflict and requested me to do a right 360; which I did. I was told to follow the pilatus. I had visual on the pilatus and after it was abeam of my position; I turned base leg. The pilatus has a much higher approach speed (I estimate 120 knots) versus my approach speed (cessna 172) of 70 knots; so there should have been more than ample time for the pilatus to land and clear the runway. I turned in trail about a mile behind it. The controller became nervous and cleared me to land on the short runway (xr) instead. Per request; I phoned the tower; and was told that I was dangerous.

Title: GA pilot reported ATC requested a post flight telephone call in regard to a potentially dangerous operation.
Narrative: I departed ZZZ and flew east at an elevation of approximately 3;000 feet; to remain outside ZZZ1 control zone until I was northeast of the airport and the runways were in sight. I was [several] miles north of XL; what I felt was a reasonable downwind distance from the runway (there is a considerable hill restricting further travel north). The controller was working a Pilatus turboprop that he had on right downwind for XL and became concerned for a traffic conflict and requested me to do a right 360; which I did. I was told to follow the Pilatus. I had visual on the Pilatus and after it was abeam of my position; I turned base leg. I turned in trail about a mile behind it. The controller became nervous and cleared me to land on the short runway (XR) instead. Per request; I phoned the Tower; and was told that I was dangerous.
