Narrative:
While in cruise flight at FL410 the FMS computer failed and gave out a puff of smoke and a smell. This caused us to [advise ATC] and descend to land. We followed procedures for both smoke in the cockpit and electronic failure checklists. Center and tower controllers were exceptionally helpful with our requests. The landing was made VFR with no other failures to report and was uneventful.
