Narrative:
A smart bag with its lithium ion battery intact was tagged for gate check this morning. I checked the port and discovered that the battery had not been removed. We notified customer service; who took the bag to identify the customer (who'd already been enplaned). They were unable to remove the battery. The bag was reunited with its owner and transported in the cabin as per SOP.
