Narrative:
On takeoff on runway 4L at ewr, I rejected the takeoff. After a 100 KT check and prior to V1, the left engine failed. I announced reject an aborted the takeoff in accordance with company procedures. Tower was informed of the abort and the runway was cleared at taxiway 1. Tower and another aircraft on tower frequency informed us that the left engine was on fire. There was no cockpit engine fire warning. I ordered the aircraft evacked. The aircraft was evacked and secured in accordance with company emergency procedures. All passenger and crew safely evacked. The passenger were gathered and accounted for a safe distance from the aircraft. Emergency crews on the scene took over from there and transported the passenger to the terminal and the crew to operations.
