Rh fuel filter bypass light illuminated after takeoff. Climbed to 4;000 feet and accomplished checklist together and notified ATC we needed time to evaluate; notify passengers; flight attendants and company. Checklist directed us to return to suitable airport. [Advised ATC] and returned to ZZZ with an overweight landing.
