Narrative:
This report describes an inadvertent and unauthorized incursion into the airspace of the ont arsa and brackett airport in pomona, ca. I was flying northeast between the sli and pom VOR's at 3500' and had planned on turning west at the pomona freeway. I was at that altitude because the terrain height and the nearby presence of the la TCA left this the only legal VFR en route altitude. My plan was to remain at 3500' and then turn to the west and climb to 4500' before calling bur approach for VFR advisories to vny. I have come to realize that I mistook the e-w highway that is immediately south of the VOR for the pomona freeway. The result was failing to turn soon enough or start a climb early enough to avoid both the west edge of the ont arsa and brackett's air traffic area. When I realized that I was in those airspaces west/O permission I became a little disoriented and started a climbing turn to the right, which of course made the arsa intrusion worse. Shortly thereafter I began my turn to the west to intercept the 270 degree right of pom. When 5 mi west of pom I contacted bur and was given a transponder code and advisories. The things that led to my mistakes are primarily a lack of judgement and the distraction of avoiding the la TCA. I was overly concerned with staying out of the TCA and failed to spend equal attention to remaining clear of the other areas. My judgement failed because I had the amp folded so that I could not see ont and could only see a fragment of the magenta arsa boundary. My other failing was not to notice that the terrain had been rising as I was heading east. My altitude kept me out of the lgb and los alamitos air traffic area's and I failed to consider the increased elevation of brackett until it was too late.

Narrative: THIS RPT DESCRIBES AN INADVERTENT AND UNAUTH INCURSION INTO THE AIRSPACE OF THE ONT ARSA AND BRACKETT ARPT IN POMONA, CA. I WAS FLYING NE BTWN THE SLI AND POM VOR'S AT 3500' AND HAD PLANNED ON TURNING W AT THE POMONA FREEWAY. I WAS AT THAT ALT BECAUSE THE TERRAIN HEIGHT AND THE NEARBY PRESENCE OF THE LA TCA LEFT THIS THE ONLY LEGAL VFR ENRTE ALT. MY PLAN WAS TO REMAIN AT 3500' AND THEN TURN TO THE W AND CLB TO 4500' BEFORE CALLING BUR APCH FOR VFR ADVISORIES TO VNY. I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT I MISTOOK THE E-W HWY THAT IS IMMEDIATELY S OF THE VOR FOR THE POMONA FREEWAY. THE RESULT WAS FAILING TO TURN SOON ENOUGH OR START A CLB EARLY ENOUGH TO AVOID BOTH THE W EDGE OF THE ONT ARSA AND BRACKETT'S ATA. WHEN I REALIZED THAT I WAS IN THOSE AIRSPACES W/O PERMISSION I BECAME A LITTLE DISORIENTED AND STARTED A CLBING TURN TO THE RIGHT, WHICH OF COURSE MADE THE ARSA INTRUSION WORSE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER I BEGAN MY TURN TO THE W TO INTERCEPT THE 270 DEG R OF POM. WHEN 5 MI W OF POM I CONTACTED BUR AND WAS GIVEN A XPONDER CODE AND ADVISORIES. THE THINGS THAT LED TO MY MISTAKES ARE PRIMARILY A LACK OF JUDGEMENT AND THE DISTR OF AVOIDING THE LA TCA. I WAS OVERLY CONCERNED WITH STAYING OUT OF THE TCA AND FAILED TO SPEND EQUAL ATTN TO REMAINING CLR OF THE OTHER AREAS. MY JUDGEMENT FAILED BECAUSE I HAD THE AMP FOLDED SO THAT I COULD NOT SEE ONT AND COULD ONLY SEE A FRAGMENT OF THE MAGENTA ARSA BOUNDARY. MY OTHER FAILING WAS NOT TO NOTICE THAT THE TERRAIN HAD BEEN RISING AS I WAS HDG E. MY ALT KEPT ME OUT OF THE LGB AND LOS ALAMITOS ATA'S AND I FAILED TO CONSIDER THE INCREASED ELEVATION OF BRACKETT UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE.
