Narrative:

During departure from cmi on flight en route from cmi to day, we experienced communications interference once established on frequency 127.45, ZAU. Frequency became unreadable and communication was reestablished with champaign approach controller. New frequency was issued for ZID while monitoring ZAU on 127.45. Communication was established and ZID took the handoff. Subsequently, communication was reestablished with ZAU and they were advised that we were now on ZID. The controller working ZAU frequency 127.45 advised that willow run airport ATIS utilized the same frequency and that interference has been a recurring problem. The lost communication problem was quickly resolved with the cmi departure controller, but ZAU was unable to communication although initial check-in was acknowledged and climb/route clearance given. The lost communication situation could have been avoided by frequency distribution protection and use of local VOR's for ATIS broadcasts in areas where discrete frequencys are a problem.

Title: AIR CARRIER ENCOUNTERED RADIO SIGNAL INTERFERENCE ON ZAU FREQ 127 PT 45 FROM YIP ATIS. ZAU CTLRS AWARE OF THE RECURRING PROBLEM.

Narrative: DURING DEP FROM CMI ON FLT ENRTE FROM CMI TO DAY, WE EXPERIENCED COMS INTERFERENCE ONCE ESTABLISHED ON FREQ 127.45, ZAU. FREQ BECAME UNREADABLE AND COM WAS REESTABLISHED WITH CHAMPAIGN APCH CTLR. NEW FREQ WAS ISSUED FOR ZID WHILE MONITORING ZAU ON 127.45. COM WAS ESTABLISHED AND ZID TOOK THE HDOF. SUBSEQUENTLY, COM WAS REESTABLISHED WITH ZAU AND THEY WERE ADVISED THAT WE WERE NOW ON ZID. THE CTLR WORKING ZAU FREQ 127.45 ADVISED THAT WILLOW RUN ARPT ATIS UTILIZED THE SAME FREQ AND THAT INTERFERENCE HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROB. THE LOST COM PROB WAS QUICKLY RESOLVED WITH THE CMI DEP CTLR, BUT ZAU WAS UNABLE TO COM ALTHOUGH INITIAL CHK-IN WAS ACKNOWLEDGED AND CLB/RTE CLRNC GIVEN. THE LOST COM SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY FREQ DISTRIBUTION PROTECTION AND USE OF LCL VOR'S FOR ATIS BROADCASTS IN AREAS WHERE DISCRETE FREQS ARE A PROB.
