Narrative:
The pilot departed the unattended de vere field at pm for a local flight. Departure was in variable crosswind condition so that either e-w or w-e departure was possible. 1 hour later, after a local flight, the airport was approached from the east and a straight in approach was executed. During rollout after T/D an aircraft approaching from the opp direction was observed flying a missed approach to avoid collision with this pilot's aircraft. The aircraft form the opp direction had not touched down as yet when executing the missed approach. Discussion with the opp direction pilot revealed that he had cleared the runway downwind and was unaware of this pilot's approach. In addition, it appeared that the wind had shifted to the east as indicated by the wind-tee. Also this pilot was flying into the sun and therefore missed seeing the opp aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION ON OPPOSITE DIRECTION LNDG TRAFFIC AT NON TWR ARPT CTAF.
Narrative: THE PLT DEPARTED THE UNATTENDED DE VERE FIELD AT PM FOR A LCL FLT. DEP WAS IN VARIABLE XWIND CONDITION SO THAT EITHER E-W OR W-E DEP WAS POSSIBLE. 1 HR LATER, AFTER A LCL FLT, THE ARPT WAS APCHED FROM THE E AND A STRAIGHT IN APCH WAS EXECUTED. DURING ROLLOUT AFTER T/D AN ACFT APCHING FROM THE OPP DIRECTION WAS OBSERVED FLYING A MISSED APCH TO AVOID COLLISION WITH THIS PLT'S ACFT. THE ACFT FORM THE OPP DIRECTION HAD NOT TOUCHED DOWN AS YET WHEN EXECUTING THE MISSED APCH. DISCUSSION WITH THE OPP DIRECTION PLT REVEALED THAT HE HAD CLRED THE RWY DOWNWIND AND WAS UNAWARE OF THIS PLT'S APCH. IN ADDITION, IT APPEARED THAT THE WIND HAD SHIFTED TO THE E AS INDICATED BY THE WIND-TEE. ALSO THIS PLT WAS FLYING INTO THE SUN AND THEREFORE MISSED SEEING THE OPP ACFT.
