Narrative:
While flying the coatt 2 arrival to washington dulles airport at 10000' MSL, washington national approach failed to give descent clearance to 4000' MSL by barin intersection (which is the normal procedure). So instead, the controller gave a vector of 080 degrees and descent to 4000' just prior to reaching brooke VOR. After about 10 mi, washington approach directed a left turn to 300 degrees, maintain 4000' MSL, resume the coatt 2 arrival, and contact dulles approach. I accidentally flew through the brv 007 degree right at about 4 mi from the brooke VORTAC. I noticed my mistake at about the brv 330 degree right and 6 DME. At that same time the dulles approach controller asked me what clearance I had received from the last controller. I told her as I started a right turn to 040 degrees to intercept the brv 007 degree right. Shortly thereafter, the controller gave vectors to final which was the standard procedure from that point. The first officer was giving the passenger the required prelndg briefing on the P/a throughout this episode.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TRACK DEVIATION FOR COMMUTER ARRIVING IAD, CTLR INTERVENES.
Narrative: WHILE FLYING THE COATT 2 ARR TO WASHINGTON DULLES ARPT AT 10000' MSL, WASHINGTON NATL APCH FAILED TO GIVE DSNT CLRNC TO 4000' MSL BY BARIN INTXN (WHICH IS THE NORMAL PROC). SO INSTEAD, THE CTLR GAVE A VECTOR OF 080 DEGS AND DSNT TO 4000' JUST PRIOR TO REACHING BROOKE VOR. AFTER ABOUT 10 MI, WASHINGTON APCH DIRECTED A LEFT TURN TO 300 DEGS, MAINTAIN 4000' MSL, RESUME THE COATT 2 ARR, AND CONTACT DULLES APCH. I ACCIDENTALLY FLEW THROUGH THE BRV 007 DEG R AT ABOUT 4 MI FROM THE BROOKE VORTAC. I NOTICED MY MISTAKE AT ABOUT THE BRV 330 DEG R AND 6 DME. AT THAT SAME TIME THE DULLES APCH CTLR ASKED ME WHAT CLRNC I HAD RECEIVED FROM THE LAST CTLR. I TOLD HER AS I STARTED A RIGHT TURN TO 040 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE BRV 007 DEG R. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE CTLR GAVE VECTORS TO FINAL WHICH WAS THE STANDARD PROC FROM THAT POINT. THE F/O WAS GIVING THE PAX THE REQUIRED PRELNDG BRIEFING ON THE P/A THROUGHOUT THIS EPISODE.
