Narrative:
We asked ZKC for lower and they advised me pilot's discretion to 7000'. Then within 5 seconds they said to cross boiler intersection at 8000'. We crossed at 8000' and at that time they told me to contact mci. We called mci approach and advised we were with them at 8000' descending to 70000'. He said roger. At 7500' he asked what our altitude was. We advised out of 7500 for 7000'. When we landed at mci ground told us to call approach. We called and they told me that we should have been at 8000'. I told them what ZKC told me. He told me to call back later. I did--I called back and he said to be careful but nothing was going to happen. I am not sure if there was a misunderstanding in communication or what. We had been working about 60-70 hours a week.
