Narrative:
While working at the farmm sector of ZAU, sequencing inbound traffic to ord, large transport X and medium large transport Y were being vectored around WX and for sequencing. When control actions to provide proper in trail to ord were attempted. A loss of frequency occurred resulting in less than standard separation between large transport X and medium large transport Y. If more efficient and reliable radios were supplied to the ATC system this situation might not have occurred.
