Narrative:
Was unable to communicate with company/dispatch to receive ETOPS weather update; tried all HF frequencies for ZZZ radio. Unable to make contact. ACARS doesn't work internationally and aircraft did not have a satcom installed. We considered an air turn back to [departure airport]; but due to the thunderstorms on the return route; we decided continuing the most prudent action as we knew [alternate airport] was VFR. At no point was safety compromised.ACARS needs to be worldwide operable; [and also] add a satcom to the aircraft.
