Narrative:
I was training with a student on an IFR flight. My student went off course to avoid icing which was a serious safety issue that day. He also had to descend to avoid icing up the wings. The temp was -2 and the clouds were at a low level. We deviated to avoid icing and had very bad signal coverage with center because of our altitude; [but] we had to act to avoid icing.
