Narrative:
Within about a minute of leveling at FL390; we noticed a smell. About 30 seconds after that; the captain said he had smoke. I looked over and a lot of smoke was coming out of his pfd top left corner. We went on oxygen and established communication. I grabbed the QRH and ran 8.10. The smoke stopped about the time we got the utility busses off. We [advised ATC] and turned around for ZZZ. His pfd continued to do strange stuff so the captain decided to pull the circuit breaker. After that; the smell started to dissipate and get better. We switched to me being pilot flying and landed without any further issues.
