Narrative:

Just prior to clearance onto runway 13 for departure. Tower advised winds had 'occasionally' gusted 200 degrees at 35 KTS and wanted to know if that was within limits. Our first guess was yes, which we relayed to tower while our flight engineer checked the chart and we lined up for takeoff. Just prior to takeoff clearance, we decided wind was about 2 KTS out of crosswind limits. Tower gave clearance, but not with winds reported out of limits (to best of our recollection). We continued takeoff with out incident. Looking back, we wondered what the consideration of occasional wind gust should have been since it wasn't reported in wind at takeoff clearance. We weren't sure whether tower was communicating present or past observation or how it impacted our clearance. Next time we'll question what the actual conditions for our present takeoff are.

Title: ACR TAKES OFF WIH CROSSWIND POSSIBLY ABOVE LIMITS.

Narrative: JUST PRIOR TO CLRNC ONTO RWY 13 FOR DEP. TWR ADVISED WINDS HAD 'OCCASIONALLY' GUSTED 200 DEGS AT 35 KTS AND WANTED TO KNOW IF THAT WAS WITHIN LIMITS. OUR FIRST GUESS WAS YES, WHICH WE RELAYED TO TWR WHILE OUR FE CHKED THE CHART AND WE LINED UP FOR TKOF. JUST PRIOR TO TKOF CLRNC, WE DECIDED WIND WAS ABOUT 2 KTS OUT OF XWIND LIMITS. TWR GAVE CLRNC, BUT NOT WITH WINDS RPTED OUT OF LIMITS (TO BEST OF OUR RECOLLECTION). WE CONTINUED TKOF WITH OUT INCIDENT. LOOKING BACK, WE WONDERED WHAT THE CONSIDERATION OF OCCASIONAL WIND GUST SHOULD HAVE BEEN SINCE IT WASN'T RPTED IN WIND AT TKOF CLRNC. WE WEREN'T SURE WHETHER TWR WAS COMMUNICATING PRESENT OR PAST OBSERVATION OR HOW IT IMPACTED OUR CLRNC. NEXT TIME WE'LL QUESTION WHAT THE ACTUAL CONDITIONS FOR OUR PRESENT TKOF ARE.
