Narrative:
During the brdje 3 arrival into dfw at FL240 we experienced a wake turbulence event requiring disengagement of the autopilot and manual normalization of aircraft attitude. We believe we passed through the descent path of a 787 ahead of us on the arrival. The wind conditions appeared to be a direct headwind which likely kept the wake of the aircraft laterally aligned with the published routing. When sufficient spacing is unavailable; utilize lateral course deviations to the upwind side to mitigate the possibility of a wake turbulence event.
