Narrative:

ATIS wind was a slight headwind out of the northwest. Cleared for takeoff and tower immediately reported wind as 080 at 6 gusting 16 (a tailwind). I asked the tower to repeat the wind; which they did. I told them we'd like to clear the runway to assess the wind. Once clear; they reported that they have two wind readouts and that one of their sensors was bad. Two other airplanes were used by the tower to verify the current wind as well as their operative wind sensor and our view of the wind socks which showed the wind to be out of the northwest (a headwind). We essentially taxied down to the first intersection and cleared the runway.
