Narrative:
Airlines training flight was declared an emergency due to strong odor of electrical fire in the cockpit. All company and aircraft emergency procedures were completed and odor dissipated. Aircraft vectored back to mht for approach to a full stop landing. Fire units followed aircraft to parking. Company supervisory mechanic investigated electrical problem. Electrical odor was idented as a failed turn and slip gyro on the captain's side. No injury to crew members and no visible damage to the aircraft.

Title: ELECTRICAL SMOKE DETECTED IN THE COCKPIT OF AN AIRLINE SMT DURING A TRAINING FLT. RETURN LAND.
Narrative: AIRLINES TRNING FLT WAS DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO STRONG ODOR OF ELECTRICAL FIRE IN THE COCKPIT. ALL COMPANY AND ACFT EMER PROCS WERE COMPLETED AND ODOR DISSIPATED. ACFT VECTORED BACK TO MHT FOR APCH TO A FULL STOP LNDG. FIRE UNITS FOLLOWED ACFT TO PARKING. COMPANY SUPERVISORY MECH INVESTIGATED ELECTRICAL PROB. ELECTRICAL ODOR WAS IDENTED AS A FAILED TURN AND SLIP GYRO ON THE CAPT'S SIDE. NO INJURY TO CREW MEMBERS AND NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE ACFT.
