Narrative:
Pushed back from gate in ZZZ. Taxied to deice pad and received type I deicing; then proceeded to taxi to runway xx for takeoff. Most; if not all of the taxiways at ZZZ were still coated with significant melting snow/slush all the way to the runway. We took off; and as tower handed us off to departure; we had the triple chime with a 'gear disagree' aural. Nose door open and gear disagree warnings were present on EICAS. Departure told us to continue climb to 17;000 [feet]; at which point we [advised ATC about] the gear in order to take vectors and work on the problem. We ran the QRH for the gear disagree message. It called for putting the gear back down; which cleared the messages. We attempted to bring the gear back up; and we got the gear disagree message again. We then ran the QRH for the gear disagree message. After turning on the pumps in step 2; the nose gear came up after approximately 10 seconds and all associated messages were cleared. We completed the checklist and cancelled the [advisory]. ATC kept us as an [priority] aircraft due to the nature of the problem and their own procedures/requirements.we diverted to ZZZ1; and held briefly to burn fuel and prevent an overweight landing. We landed and taxied to the gate without further incident; and called maintenance and dispatch.snow and ice lodged in the nose gear assembly is the most probable cause. Ensure deice crew sprays gear as well as the rest of the aircraft if able. Push ZZZ to do a better job of clearing taxiways of snow. Consider using as an example/provide training on issues like this during winter ops training.
