Narrative:

Upon reaching 11;000 feet we encountered light icing in which conditions were deteriorating. We decided an immediate 180 turn was needed with a return back to the departure airport. This turn was done while contacting ATC. We started a left turn before ATC clearance was received. ATC responded with instructions for a right turn. We corrected by turning right more than 180 degrees and exited the icing conditions. ATC also gave us a descent to 10;000 feet which helped us expedite out of the icing. An uneventful landing back at the departure airport was executed. No emergency was declared. The flight was cancelled for the remainder of the day.
